Jim Hanna's photo of the permanently eased Phillips Farm, as seen through the garden of the Griffith Gover House on Main Street, was selected by the Waterford Foundation's Development Committee for the 2009 Fair's poster. This poster is being sold as a fundraiser for the Foundation's campaign to rebuild the fire-ravaged Waterford Old School auditorium.

New Book of Waterford Photos
garden bookThis image also graces the cover of a beautiful new hardcover book, Waterford, Virginia: Preserving Our Heritage, which includes a brief history of the village as well as Jim Hanna's lovely photographs taken during one week in May.

The book can be ordered in hardcover or paperback, online at the publisher Blurb.com. You can preview the book online, or come into the Waterford Foundation offices to see a copy. A portion of the price will go toward our Raise the Roof Capital Campaign for rebuilding the Old School, so order copies for your friends and family for the holidays!

"We are so grateful to Jim Hanna for donating his photographs to our Old School capital campaign," says Foundation President Susan Sutter. "With the generosity of supporters like Jim, along with the Fair activities, grants, and donations we're hoping to reach the $1.2 million we need to begin construction of the Old School auditorium in 2010. When the new auditorium is completed, it will serve again as the education and cultural center for the region."

Jim Hanna has enjoyed photography since he was a child, and as an adult aims his talents on "sustaining rural culture in the face of urban sprawl." He has studied at New York's International Center of Photography, the Maine Media Workshops in Rockport, and the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. Jim lives and works in western Loudoun County, Virginia. After retiring from the World Bank in 2005, he established Jim Hanna Photography, L.L.C. in 2006. He continues to develop his digital photography through field work and regular seminars; a number of his photos have been recognized in a variety of juried shows.

And, if you want to order any of the photographs of Waterford's houses and gardens from our new book, go to Jim Hanna's website: www.jimhannaphotography.com.
