Donate to the Waterford Foundation

The mission of the Waterford Foundation is to preserve the historic buildings and the open spaces of the National Historic Landmark District of Waterford, Virginia; and through education, to increase the public's knowledge of life and work in an early American rural community.

The Waterford Foundation, Inc., founded in 1943, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that relies on funds received from memberships and donations to fulfill its mission to preserve and protect the Waterford National Historic Landmark. Your donations go toward maintenance of our historic buildings and properties, and to the many educational programs that take place in this lovely village. Neither the landmark nor the Foundation would exist without your support and the efforts of our dedicated volunteers. Thank you!

There are many ways for you to support the mission of the Waterford Foundation:

Give to the 2011 Annual Appeal

Your support means the Foundation can continue its preservation through education mission and keep Waterford the special place it is today. At the left you will see our Gift Giving Menu. Your donation today will help us safeguard Waterford’s historic buildings and open spaces, and bring new educational programs, concerts, plays, lectures, and celebrations to the Waterford Old School when it reopens in Spring 2012. Thank you for being part of the continuing effort to make history in Waterford.

Help Us Rebuild the Old School Auditorium

rebuild old school
On July 1, 2011, we began construction of the new Waterford Old School Auditorium--almost five years after it burned to the ground on January 25, 2007, and the original 1910 Greek Revival classroom building was severely damaged.

The new auditorium, scheduled to reopen in late spring 2012, will have a bigger stage, a better kitchen, a gracious stone terrace for intermission refreshments in fair weather (it also covers the storage tank for the fire sprinkler system); generous storage space for the piano, chairs and tables; a basement to house HVAC equipment, storage, and dressing area.

For those who loved the “sounds of music” at Waterford Concerts, the new auditorium has design features that will ensure acoustic quality that was so valued in the lost auditorium.

Happily, when construction began on the new auditorium in July, 80 percent of the $1.86 million construction budget was in the bank from donations, pledges, grants, state tax credits, and funds from the Tin Shop sale. To cover the additional $375,000 in costs, the Foundation must count on our friends and a small loan. The more money we raise now, the less we will need to borrow. When construction is complete, we will still need funds to furnish the building.

YOUR DONATION or pledge TODAY will help us meet our goal and bring the Old School Auditorium to life!
