On Your Mark, Get Set, Go!
In April, runners and walkers are invited to take part in Waterford's Landmark
Cross Country 10K Run-Hike-Walk. The Run-Hike-Walk takes
place entirely on the grounds of the privately owned property
of historic Talbot Farm.
The bush-hogged and marked run route meanders across creeks, up
and down hills and along the property boundaries on the farm. The
events are designed for participants at varying levels of fitness.
The run route is the longest at 10K and is a challenging course
for the veteran runner. The hike route is 6K and designed to accommodate
those interested in a slightly less strenuous course than the 10K
run. The more leisurely 3K nature walk includes a guide from the
Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy who will fill you in on the flora
and fauna living on Talbot Farm. Talbot Farm is home to over 27
species of birds. Bring your binoculars and see how many you can
spot!
The race will be followed by an awards ceremony, honoring the
man and woman winning overall, the best individual and team high
school runners, and fastest 55+ competitors. Proceeds
from the race will be used to further the Waterford Foundation's
mission to preserve and protect the Landmark and to support the
Briggs Animal Adoption Center (in nearby Charles Town, West Virginia).
The event is administered through the Foundation for Charitable
Funding, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
The entrance fee for runners is $25 prior to April 1 and $35 thereafter.
Hikers and walkers may register prior to April 1 for $15 and $25
thereafter. Registration is available online at www.active.com (just
search for Waterford 10K). Learn more about the Run-Hike-Walk by
visiting www.waterford10k.com .
Due to the nature of the events, entries are limited to 400 for
the run, 200 for the hike and 75 for the nature walk. Register
early to ensure your place!
