Celebrating 250 years of American independence

In 2026, people all around the country will be commemorating the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, and we in Loudoun County are no different! The Waterford Foundation is proud to be a partner of the Loudoun County 250 Committee to commemorate this momentous occasion in American history. Together the 250 committee’s goal is to cultivate an understanding and appreciation of Loudoun’s past and a deeper investment in its future; and to foster a space where everyone can see themselves in the American Revolution and how the ideas from it have shaped the country.

While Waterford would have looked very different to the Village we know and love today (it wouldn’t have even had the name Waterford yet!), the beginning roots of what we know today as Waterford were laid during the years leading up to and during the American Revolution. Throughout its history, residents of Waterford have grappled with how the founding principles of our country are put into practice in our community- from the original millers and farmers, the Loudoun Independent Rangers, the African American congregation that built the John Wesley Community Church, the students of the Second Street School during the turn of the century, and Waterford’s early preservationists who were inspired by the Colonial Revival movement of the early 20th century.

Commemorate this moment here and beyond with the Waterford Foundation! Check out the calendar below for events- from craft classes to diving deep into the history of the Village- there’s something for everyone.
